Our first issue: a matcha cheesecake takes a Big Tex award ahead of the State Fair, two Dallas Matcha Club dates, and the matcha-forward cafes that opened around DFW this summer.

Berry Me in Matcha, a New York-style cheesecake from Stephen El Gidi (Drizzle Cheesecakes), took the Most Creative title at the State Fair of Texas food contest on Aug. 18. The cheesecake is dipped in white chocolate, coated in crushed matcha cookies and finished with strawberry jam and fresh strawberry; it sells for about $15 during the fair, which runs Sept. 25 to Oct. 18 at Fair Park.

The Dallas Matcha Club, a free community group founded in 2024, lists a meetup at Everyday Works (516 S. Hampton Rd. #180, Dallas) on Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 2 p.m. The club organizes regular cafe meetups and matcha workshops around DFW. Sign-up is through the club's Luma calendar.
The Dallas Matcha Club has listed a party for its second anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 4, in Carrollton, from noon to 4 p.m. The club started in October 2024, and CultureMap reported earlier in 2026 that its meetups draw 30 to 150 people. The public listing shows only 'Carrollton' as the location.
Matcha & Creme serves ceremonial-grade matcha from a strip-center space at Meadow Central Market (10455 N. Central Expy.) in North Dallas. Founder Muhammad Motiwala, a UT Dallas graduate, puts matcha ahead of espresso, with flavored lattes such as strawberry, cardamom, jasmine and raspberry, most around $7. The Dallas Observer says the shop opened in spring 2026, and it was profiled again in the Observer's Sept. 10 roundup of new cafes.

Go Culture Cafe opened at 5606 Maple Ave., Suite 110, near Love Field and the Medical District, in July 2026. It was planned to open after July 4 with a grand opening in mid-July. The menu includes signature iced matcha drinks such as saffron matcha and fig matcha, plus matcha shots and a matcha Americano. PaperCity visited on July 31 and reported the tables were full.

Habitat Plants + Coffee, which started in downtown McKinney, has opened a second cafe at Preston Towne Crossing (4817 W. Park Blvd., Suite 815) in Plano. The shop sells houseplants and serves coffee and matcha, and staff recommend the Moon Mist Matcha and the Dirty Berry. The Dallas Morning News gives Aug. 4 as the opening date; Plano Magazine reported it on the same day as a recent opening.

Molly Tea, a jasmine-tea chain founded in Shenzhen, held its grand opening on Aug. 14 at Carrollton Town Center (2540 Old Denton Rd. #122), after a soft opening earlier that week. The menu is mostly jasmine milk tea but includes matcha drinks such as the Velvety Matcha Supreme. The franchisee says she plans to open a Plano location by the end of the year.

Kissa Matcha opened on June 1 at 2625 W. Pioneer Pkwy. #210 in Asia Times Square. It is a relaunch of the space formerly run as Meccha Matcha. The shop makes matcha drinks and soft serve with ceremonial-grade matcha from Japan.
